Kendrapada: The additional district and sessions judge-cum-special judge (Pocso), Jajpur, sentenced a 52-year-old man to five years of rigorous imprisonment on Tuesday for molesting his daughter (14), whom he had adopted, four years ago.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict and failure to pay that would result in his sentence being increased by six months.A relative of the victim’s mother had filed an FIR against the man, alleging that he tried to rape his daughter on Sept 12, 2022, when she was alone in the house. The victim was studying in Class 8 at the time of the incident.Acting on the FIR, police launched an investigation and arrested the father under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
