Manoj Kumar PandeyKoderma: A local court on Tuesday sentenced a 26-year-old man to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for killing his wife over dowry demand in June 2025.Additional district and sessions judge-lll Rakesh Chandra also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on convict, Saffiullah, a resident of Bagridih under Domchanch police station limits. If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to spend another three months in jail.The case was registered based on a complaint filed by victim Simran Khatoon’s mother, Afsana. She stated that her daughter married Safiullah in 2023. Since then, Simran was tortured by her husband, who demanded Rs 1 lakh in cash and a bike. Afsana alleged that her daughter was killed because the family could not fulfill the dowry demands.Public prosecutor Praveen Kumar Singh said the court held Safiullah guilty under Section 80(2) of the BNS.
