Mangaluru: The Vth additional district and sessions court, Mangaluru, at Puttur, has sentenced a 60-year-old man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in an acid attack case registered at Kadaba police station.The convict, Jayananda K, a resident of Kodimbala in Kadaba, was convicted in a case registered under Sections 354A, 509, 504, 506, 448, 307 and 326A of the IPC in 2020. He was accused of attacking his sister-in-law with acid used to make rubber sheets, over non-payment of bank loan.The case was investigated by the then investigating officers, including Kusumadhar, who was serving as the police inspector at the Puttur women’s police station. After collecting evidence, the investigating team filed a chargesheet against the accused before the court.Judge Sadananda Nagappa Naik sentenced Jayaananda to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment on Tuesday, and imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh under Section 326A of the IPC. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo two years’ simple imprisonment.The court also sentenced him to one year’s imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 504 of the IPC. In default of payment, he will undergo three months’ simple imprisonment.Public prosecutors Krishnaveni, Harishchandra Udyavar, Prakash Chandra Shetty and Jayanti K represented the prosecution before the court.
