Kanpur: Jalaun police recovered the body of a man from Mohalla Siddharth Nagar under the Kadaura police station area from the Yamuna River on Sunday morning, triggering tension and discussion in the locality.Police said the man had gone viral on social media two days earlier after posting a video in which he alleged police torture, assault and false action against him, while also expressing his intention to end his life.According to officials, a woman from the town had submitted a written complaint accusing the man of harassment. Acting on the complaint, police initiated proceedings against him for breach of peace and issued a challan.After being released on bail on Thursday evening, the man reportedly returned home but later left for Kalpi. From there, he recorded and uploaded a video on social media alleging that the woman had assaulted him, but instead of hearing his side, police acted solely on the complaint filed against him.In the video, he claimed he was deeply hurt by the alleged police action and torture and intended to end his life. Following the circulation of the video on social media, the police department formed three teams to trace him.After information was received about a body floating in the Yamuna river on Sunday morning, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.The incident left the family in deep grief, while residents in the area discussed allegations of police harassment linked to the case. Locals alleged that the man took the extreme step due to distress caused by the alleged police torture.Ajay Brahm Tiwari said the body appeared to be around two days old. He stated that, according to preliminary findings, the man jumped into the river on the same day he recorded the video.Police said the matter remains under investigation. The deceased’s family has demanded an impartial probe and strict action against those found responsible.
