T’puram: A 54-year-old man was found dead in a lodge at Attingal, with the police suspecting that the body had been lying there for several days. The deceased was Nasarudeen, alias Nasar of Ayyilam in Attingal.Nasar had been staying at Uthrattathi Lodge, located opposite the Attingal sub-treasury, for around two-and-a-half years. According to the police, other occupants of the lodge noticed a foul smell emanating from the area around his room and alerted the lodge owner.The owner subsequently informed the Attingal police, following which a police team inspected the room. Nasarudeen was found lying dead on the bed inside the room.The police said the body appeared to be several days old based on the preliminary assessment. The exact time and cause of death will be established after the postmortem.The police have registered a case under the provisions relating to unnatural death and initiated an investigation. The circumstances preceding the death are also being examined.The police are expected to record statements of the lodge owner and other occupants who noticed the foul smell and gather information about Nasarudeen’s movements and recent activities.The body was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram medical college for postmortem.Officials are also examining whether Nasarudeen had been in contact with anyone in the days preceding his death and whether any other circumstances were linked to the incident.
