Mangaluru: A Belthangady-based businessman has alleged that a woman he met through a matrimony app cheated him of over Rs 87 lakh by repeatedly seeking money on various pretexts over several months.In a complaint, he stated that he came into contact with the accused, identified as Anisha Palanna,35, through a matrimony app in May 2024. The two remained in touch over mobile phone. Between Sept 26, 2024, and Jan 20, 2025, the accused allegedly called the complainant on multiple occasions, and citing various reasons, induced him to transfer money in stages to different bank accounts.The complainant alleged that he transferred a total of Rs 87,22,710 to the accused. However, she later became unreachable on her mobile phone and failed to return the money, allegedly cheating him. Based on the complaint, Belthangady police have registered a case under Section 318(4) of the BNS, and have taken up investigation.
