Coimbatore: A 48-year-old man drowned in a water stream in Ajjanur in the city, on Saturday.The deceased has been identified as R Subramanian, 48, of Ajjanur near Sundapalayam. He was employed as a temporary gardener at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU). Police said the incident took place when Subramanian was cutting grass to feed his cattle near the Paribalan Phase Apartments in Ajjanur. “He could have lost his footing, causing him to accidentally slip and drown,” said a police officer from Vadavalli station.Meanwhile, preliminary inquiry revealed that Subramanian had been suffering from epilepsy since childhood and was under treatment. “It is uncertain if he suffered a seizure and fell into a stream,” the officer added.The incident came to light when his relatives went looking for him, after he did not return home for a long time. They informed Vadavalli police that he did not return from the stream. Police subsequently fished out the body and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a postmortem.Vadavalli police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and are investigating the circumstances of the drowning.
