Chatra: A 20-year-old man was found hanging from a tree on a govt school campus in Chatra district’s Itkhori block on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Adil Khalifa, a resident of Dhankheri village. The school is barely 100 metres from his residence.Police sources said he allegedly died by suicide after being admonished by his father for consuming drugs. The body was found at around 8 am when students reached the school and found a foul smell emanating from the rear of the building. On moving closer to bushes, they found the body hanging from the tree and informed teacher Mohammad Islam, who alerted police.Itkhori police station officer in-charge Abhishek Kumar Singh reached the spot with a team and recovered the body.Police said that prima facie it appears to be a suicide case. Preliminary probe suggests Adil was allegedly upset after being scolded by family members and was also struggling with drug addiction, which often led to disputes at home. However, family members denied that he died by suicide, alleging that it could be a “pre-planned murder”.The OC said, “Police are carrying out a detailed inspection of the scene and questioning people in nearby areas. An FIR will be registered based on the family’s statement. We are awaiting technical evidence and the postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.”
