Bhubaneswar: A road accident on NH-18 left a man and his young daughter critically injured on Monday after a high-speed collision sent their scooter and the car involved plunging nearly 20ft off a bridge near Budhikhamari square.The accident took place as the car was heading towards Balasore from Baripada. Witnesses reported that the vehicle struck a scooter carrying a man and his 6-year-old daughter with massive force. Police were yet to identify the injured persons.The impact was so severe that both the rider and the child were thrown off the scooter and over the side of the bridge. Later, the car driver lost control, and the vehicle also careened off the edge, crashing into the river below.Local residents immediately mobilised a rescue operation and pulled the victims from the crash site. All injured persons were transported to the Medical College and Hospital in Baripada.Due to the deteriorating condition of the scooter rider, he was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, for advanced trauma care. The current condition of the child and the car driver is critical, police said.
