Jaipur: A 25-year-old man is battling for life after allegedly being attacked with an axe by the brother of a woman who died by suicide in Jaipur. Police suspect the accused targeted the student, holding him responsible for his sister’s death. The victim is undergoing treatment in the ICU, while his father lodged an FIR Tuesday. Deputy commissioner of police (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said police are investigating the case.According to the FIR, the victim’s mother received a threatening phone call on July 8 in which the caller allegedly said, “Your son is responsible for my sister’s suicide. We will chop him to death with an axe.” Shortly afterwards, the family learnt that the student had been critically injured and admitted to a private hospital.Police said the woman, who was pursuing her studies in Jaipur and lived with her brother, was found hanging in her room three days after the student allegedly visited her flat and stayed overnight. Her family alleged the two had argued the previous night and accused the student of murdering her before staging the scene as suicide. Based on the complaint, police registered a murder case against the student on July 11.During the investigation, police found that the two had been friends for about a year. Investigators suspect the woman’s brother later attacked the student in retaliation, allegedly striking him multiple times on the head, neck, arms and legs with an axe.The victim’s father also alleged that he has been receiving repeated threats that his son would be killed either inside the hospital or after his discharge. Police said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused while both cases are being investigated.
