Kanpur: A 45-year-old man allegedly beat his 15-year-old son to death in Auraiya’s Purvi Somvanshi village on Monday night over the suspected theft of Rs 900. The accused, Ummed Singh, was arrested from a village field the same night. Singh said he had not intended to kill his son and assaulted him in a fit of rage after money went missing from his pocket. He also referred to villagers’ complaints and theft allegations against the boy.Police sent the body for postmortem, while a forensic team collected evidence from the scene. Injury marks were found on the body, police said. The autopsy report will establish the cause of death and extent of injuries.The victim’s sister, who witnessed the assault, alleged that her father tied up the boy and beat him with a stick for about half an hour. She said Singh also struck her when she tried to intervene.The girl said she went outside seeking help, but villagers had gone for Ganesh Puja. When she returned with water, her brother was unresponsive. His elder brother later took him to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.According to her, her younger brother denied stealing the money and said Rs 300 had been spent and Rs 600 given to a friend. A relative informed police around midnight. Police said Singh lived with his three children and supported the family through farming. His wife died 14 years ago.
