Lucknow: A man allegedly hacked his wife to death with an axe at their house in Nigohan area early on Monday following a domestic dispute.The accused fled after committing the crime. Rajesh Rawat (48), who lived at his in-laws’ house in Shekhan Kheda, allegedly attacked his wife Rajeshwari Devi (46) with an axe following an argument. The victim sustained multiple blows to her face and neck and died on the spot. The couple’s children and other family members had gone to attend a neighbour’s wedding function when the incident took place.
When the couple’s eldest son Gulshan (22) returned home from the ceremony, he found his mother lying on a cot covered with clothes. On removing the clothes, he discovered she was lying in a pool of blood with deep axe wounds on her face and neck. The weapon used in the attack was also found on the cot.Gulshan told police that his father was addicted to alcohol and frequently quarrelled with his mother. while intoxicated. Troubled by the constant disputes, Rajeshwari sold ancestral land about two years ago and built a house to live separately from relatives.
