Gurgaon: A man was arrested for allegedly giving false information about gunfire to police, triggering an unnecessary response and misuse of public resources in Farrukhnagar.Police said the incident dated back to Jan 24, when Farukhnagar police station received a Dial 112 call reporting gunfire in Kheda Khurampur village. A police team was dispatched to the location.Police found the caller present but during the inquiry, discovered that no such incident had occurred. The caller had made the false complaint after a verbal spat with a neighbour.Following an inquiry, the man, Pradeep, was arrested on Friday. Police said he knowingly gave false information to the emergency service, leading to unnecessary deployment of police personnel and misuse of government resources.Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar said legal action has been initiated against him under Section 217 (false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person) of BNS.A senior police officer said fake and misleading calls are a challenge for the police control room. “We get scores of calls at the police control room or on Dial 112 every day, and many of them turn out to be false. Many times, we send police teams to the spot only to find that the call was made to settle personal scores. There is a need to deal with such callers strictly,” the officer said. Officers said false calls not only waste time and manpower but also hamper emergency response for those who genuinely need help. The Gurgaon police has appealed to citizens to refrain from giving any false or misleading information, stressing that emergency services are meant strictly for urgent situations.
