COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police on Friday arrested a 25-year-old man on charges peddling prescription drugs, intoxicating pills, vials and syringes.The arrested has been identified as B Abdul Rahman of Kottaimedu in Ukkadam. Police seized 1,200 medicinal vials, 100 psychotropic tablets and 30 syringes from his possession.According to police, the breakthrough came during routine anti-narcotics patrolling in Ukkadam. Acting on intelligence gathered from a few detained users, police successfully tracked the distribution chain back to Abdul Rahman, who was actively operating in the Kottaimedu area. Subsequent interrogations revealed that his primary consumer base comprised local youth, students and low-income daily wage workers looking for cheap synthetic drugs.Speaking on the operational breakthrough, Ukkadam police inspector Gomathi stated, “By tracking the active consumers of these intoxicating pills and syringes, we were able to reverse-engineer the network and nab the primary seller. We are currently tracking the larger suppliers who smuggled these pharmaceutical drugs to him. We are monitoring individuals using these substances. We strongly advise the youth not to ruin their future and ruin their lives by engaging in such destructive activities.”A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and the man was remanded in judicial custody.
