CHENNAI: Customs officials arrested a Malaysian national after recovering 4.033 kg of suspected high-grade hydroponic ganja from his checked-in baggage at Chennai International Airport.Based on passenger profiling, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Chennai Customs intercepted the passenger after he arrived from Bangkok on Friday night.The passenger allegedly attempted to exit through the Green Channel without making any declaration to Customs.During X-ray screening, his checked-in baggage showed suspicious images, following which the luggage was subjected to detailed examination.Officials found four packets containing a greenish, lumpy substance with a sharp and pungent odour. The packets, suspected to contain high-grade hydroponic ganja (cannabis), had been concealed inside false bottoms of the baggage.The recovered substance weighed 4,033 grams (net) and tested positive for ganja/marijuana using a narcotic drug detection kit.The contraband was seized under Section 43(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The passenger was arrested and subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
