Patna: The Malahi Pakri metro station is expected to open for the public by the end of May 2026. Following a successful trial run on April 27, the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) is now awaiting final written approval from the commissioner of metro railway safety (CMRS) to commence operations.Located in the busy Kankarbagh area, Malahi Pakri is an elevated station on Corridor II, also known as the Blue Line.“All civil, structural, electrical and safety works at the station have been fully completed. A trial run was recently conducted between Bhoothnath and Malahi Pakri, covering 2.9 km including Khemnichak, under the supervision of CMRS and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation experts. This has successfully linked the new section with the existing operational route from Bhoothnath to Patliputra Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT),” PMRC spokesperson Archana Khushi said. She said once CMRS approval is received for operations between ISBT and Malahi Pakri, the station will be opened for passengers. The station has CCTV surveillance, security deployment, baggage screening, ticketing facilities, lifts, escalators, stairways and wall art installations. The opening of Malahi Pakri will complete the 6.5 km elevated priority corridor connecting Malahi Pakri to New ISBT via Khemnichak, Bhootnath and Zero Mile. It is expected to ease congestion along Bypass Road, Kankarbagh and adjoining areas, while improving connectivity for daily commuters.Currently, metro services operate between Bhootnath and ISBT over 3.6km, with daily ridership ranging between 4,500 and 8,000 passengers.Work is also progressing at Khemnichak station, expected to be completed within six months. It will serve as a major interchange between the Blue Line and Red Line, with four entry and exit points, multiple lifts and escalators, and platforms at two levels to facilitate smooth transfers and strengthen the city’s metro network.
