Nagpur: At least three adjoining residential-cum-commercial properties were damaged in a major fire that broke out at Vaishali Nagar’s Char Khamba Chowk on Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two hours before bringing it under control.Fire department received the call at 2.49pm and rushed tenders from Sugat Nagar and Pachpaoli fire stations to the spot. Fire crews reached the site at around 2.59pm and launched an extensive firefighting operation.The blaze initially erupted in a G+1 structure owned by Mohammed Sadiq. The ground floor housed a plywood shop while the upper floor was being used for residential purposes. Loss in the building was estimated at around 20,000. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.The flames soon spread to an adjoining G+1 structure owned by Mohammed Asif, where a tyre manufacturing and repair unit operated on the ground floor. The fire engulfed four tin-shade shops, destroying two tyre-making machines, around 700 tyres and large quantities of raw material used in tyre manufacturing. The loss was estimated at approx 1.20 crore. Mohammed Asif sustained burns on his hand during the incident.Another adjoining G+1 property housing a fabrication shop also suffered damage, resulting in an estimated loss of 40,000. TNN
