Jaisalmer: The state authorities launched a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking in border districts by demolishing illegal encroachments and properties allegedly acquired through black money Tuesday in Jaisalmer and at six locations in Sriganganagar. Officials said the campaign against narcotics is no longer limited to arrests, and authorities are now focusing on dismantling financial networks and illegal assets built through the drug trade.Sriganganagar Superintendent of Police Hari Shankar said district police were continuously taking action against narcotics trafficking, properties allegedly created from illegal earnings, and encroachments carried out by smugglers and habitual offenders on govt land.In Sriganganagar, under the supervision of SHOs of Suratgarh and Purani Aabadi police stations and in coordination with civic authorities, six separate demolition actions were conducted. Illegal encroachments allegedly linked to drug smuggler Rahul Kumar and accused Mustafa Khan, Ramjilal alias Ramu Bhat, and history-sheeter Vikas alias Vicky Meel were removed from land belonging to the municipality, gram panchayat and housing board.Police said Sub-Inspector Dinesh Saran, SHO of Suratgarh City Police Station, coordinated with the municipal administration to clear encroachments and free five plots of govt land valued at crores of rupees.Authorities alleged that the accused constructed illegal boundary walls, rooms and structures at different locations in Suratgarh and repeatedly occupied govt land. Police records cited by officials showed multiple criminal cases registered against the accused, including 18 cases against Vikas alias Vicky Meel, 11 against Ramjilal alias Ramu Bhat and three against Mustafa Khan.In Jaisalmer, the district administration, under Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare, demolished illegal kutcha and pucca structures at two locations near the Police Line area. The operation was carried out jointly by the Nagar Parishad and Kotwali Police amid heavy security deployment.Officials said those whose constructions were targeted previously came under police action in narcotics-related cases. In one linked case, police arrested Jai Singh Sodha and recovered MDMA, 95 grams of smack and other suspicious substances. Another accused, Ridmal Singh Utrabba of Barmer, also faced earlier NDPS-related action.Authorities said investigations revealed important leads connected to organised drug trafficking networks and warned that strict legal action would continue against properties linked to crime.
