Moitra has been among the earliest political leaders to publicly back the student-led Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) movement, repeatedly demanding Pradhan’s resignation and accusing the Centre of mishandling the examination crisis. Earlier this week, she had remarked that the minister “doesn’t know how to write a letter of resignation” and urged the government to stop “bhashans” and accept his resignation.

Pradhan stepped down on Saturday after nearly over a month of sustained protests that began over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and evolved into a broader nationwide movement demanding accountability and reforms in India’s examination system.

The agitation, spearheaded by the CJP, culminated in a massive Sansad March in Delhi, where clashes broke out between protesters and security personnel, triggering widespread political criticism over the police response. The Centre subsequently accepted the protesters’ principal demand by accepting Pradhan’s resignation, after which the CJP announced the suspension of its nationwide protests and declared the movement a victory for students
