Kanpur: Mahendra Singh Tanwar, a 2015-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Kanpur district magistrate. He was earlier serving as DM of Kushinagar.Outgoing Kanpur DM, Jitendra Pratap Singh, has been appointed director of Uttar Pradesh State Agricultural Production Mandi Council.Tanwar, a native of Haryana’s Rohtak district, studied BTech in textile engineering and worked in the private sector for two years before clearing the civil services examination in 2015 and becoming an IAS officer.He has served as Ghaziabad municipal commissioner, Gorakhpur Development Authority vice-chairperson, Shahjahanpur chief development officer, and joint magistrate in Bahraich and Etah. He was appointed Kushinagar DM in April 2025 after serving as DM of Sant Kabir Nagar.Jitendra Pratap Singh had taken charge as Kanpur DM in Jan 2025 and was known for helping vulnerable people.
