Pune Election Winners: As Maharashtra witnessed 29 municipal elections, ward no. 40 in Pune stood out for a unique reason.
Amid the talk of women empowerment, this general ward empowered four women corporators under its multi-ward system. All four women winners are from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The four winners are Archana Amit Jagtap, Vrushali Sunil Kamthe, Pooja Tushar Kadam and Ranjana Pundalik Tilekar. During the campaign, all four candidates went door to door and interacted directly with voters, raised local issues and assured the voters of development, News18 Marathi reported.
The BJP won a clear majority with 119 of 165 seats, securing control of the Pune civic body by itself. The majority mark is 83.
The Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) secured 27 seats, Congress 15, NCP (SP) 3, Shiv Sena (UBT) 1.
Pune used a multi-member ward system for the 2026 Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) election.

Unlike a single-member ward system where each ward elects one representative, in the multi-member ward system each ward elects multiple corporators.
In the 2026 PMC election, the civic body was divided into 41 wards, and most wards elect four corporators each.
One ward (ward 38 – Ambegaon Katraj) had five members due to its larger population.
This means voters in Pune cast multiple votes (up to four) to elect multiple corporators from their ward.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said people didn’t reject deputy CM Ajit Pawar, but rather endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and development agenda through their votes in Pune and other civic polls.
He described the results as an “unprecedented endorsement” of the BJP and its Mahayuti allies by the electorate, highlighting the party’s development-focused governance and public trust in its policies.
