Hivali govt school model to be replicated across Maharashtra

Nashik: School education minister Dada Bhuse has announced plans to replicate the innovative learning model developed by teacher Keshav Gavit at the Zilla Parishad school in Trimbakeshwar taluka’s Hivali across govt schools in Maharashtra.

“Students should actively participate in various initiatives alongside their studies. Such involvement plays a crucial role in holistic personality development and rural progress,” Bhuse said during his visit to the remote tribal school on Sept 30, where he interacted with students, reviewed facilities and lauded the institution for blending academics with nature-based and skill-oriented learning.

The Hivali ZP school has earned recognition for its unconventional approach to education. Operating with 12-hour daily learning sessions and no holidays, the school has produced remarkable outcomes despite its remote location. Students are capable of memorising multiplication tables beyond 1,000 and can write simultaneously with both hands.

Under teacher Gavit’s leadership, the school has expanded learning beyond textbooks, introducing students to organic farming, electrical work and welding at an early age. The curriculum combines environmental awareness, physical discipline and vocational training, creating a distinctive model of rural education.

Impressed by the school’s achievements, the state education department is now considering incorporating key elements of the Hivali experiment into public schools across Maharashtra.
