People who receive notices through the ECINet software can respond by sending the required documents to their BLOs on WhatsApp, a Maharashtra poll official said on Wednesday.

“The BLOs have been asked to visit homes for verification of the documents sent, if required,” he said.
The move comes as the Election Commission carries SIR in Maharashtra. The application and objections deadline has been extended from September 30 to October 12.
The deadline for withdrawal of notices, claims and objections will remain till November 10 and the last electoral roll will be made available on November 16.

The Congress has complained that the ECINet system was tampering with the statutory powers of EROs in assessing voter eligibility.
The SIR exercise has also been criticized by the Opposition parties based on reports of questioning or raising comments on at least 14 instances by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi over decisions and orders in the revision exercise in the past 10 months. Some of their objections were that they weren’t informed of certain decisions.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has been accused of taking unilateral decisions in favour of the ruling establishment by opposition parties.
The Election Commission has denied this allegation, stating that it had unanimously made the decisions, including the SIR of electoral rolls.
