Thane: The Majiwada-Manpada ward of the Thane Municipal Corporation has recovered the highest amount of pending water bills and collected Rs 1.1 crore, reveal civic records shared on Friday. The ward has been facing one of the worst water scarcities, with several plush complexes forced to cough up lakhs in monthly contributions to avail tanker services.A civic official said that the department had launched a strict week-long special drive and recovered pending water arrears worth Rs 4.2 crore between Feb 27 and March 5. As per the municipal data, Kalwa recovered Rs 59 lakh, Naupada Rs 52.9 lakh, Vartak Nagar Rs 49.9 lakh and Uthalsar Rs 36.6 lakh. Recoveries from Lokmanya–Savarkar Nagar ward committee were Rs 31.3 lakh, while those from Wagle Estate were Rs 25.1 lakh, Diva at Rs 23.6 lakh, and Mumbra at Rs 16.6 lakh. “Civic officials disconnected 103 water connections, slapped 177 notices, seized pumps, and sealed a pump room,” said commissioner Saurabh Rao.
