Dimapur: Nagaland governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Tuesday inaugurated the third Made in Nagaland Centre at YouthNet in Chumoukedima. The centre aims to provide a dedicated platform for locally made products and help entrepreneurs expand their market reach.Speaking at the inauguration, Yadav said the centre marked an important step towards creating an ecosystem in which Nagaland’s creativity, enterprise, traditional skills and cultural wealth could find markets and generate sustainable economic value. He said the state’s indigenous crafts, textiles, agricultural products, food traditions and artistic expressions could become sustainable sources of livelihood if producers were given adequate market access.Governor said YouthNet’s Made in Nagaland initiative was conceived to bridge the gap between local producers and larger markets. The first one-stop platform was launched in 2018 with 81 entrepreneurs and has since grown to include around 350 entrepreneurs and 600 products from across the state, he said.Yadav said the initiative was particularly significant for young people, women, micro, small and medium enterprises, and rural communities. He stressed the need to encourage young people to become job creators rather than depend solely on salaried employment.Hekani Jakhalu, adviser to Industries and Commerce Department and founder of YouthNet, spoke about the establishment of Made in Nagaland Centre. She said YouthNet was founded in 2006 to encourage young people to consider entrepreneurship and create employment opportunities rather than depend solely on govt jobs.Jakhalu said the first Made in Nagaland Centre was launched in Kohima in 2018 and the new centre in Chumoukedima was the third under the initiative.
