Ludhiana: Manmeet Kaur, a resident of Ludhiana, has been selected in the 12-member Indian squad for the upcoming 14th Asian Women’s Netball Championship, scheduled to be held in Hong Kong from August 8 to 15.The selection followed a month-long national coaching camp held at Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya in Khanpur Kalan, Sonipat, from July 2 to August 3. A total of 21 players from across the country participated in the camp, undergoing intensive technical, tactical, and fitness training under national coaches before the final team was announced. Manmeet stated that her consistent performance and team spirit earned her a spot in the national squad.Manmeet, a defensive player, balances her sporting career with a job at a private firm—taking over the role previously held by her father before his passing—to support her family, alongside her mother, who is a homemaker. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Arts and Physical Education and is currently pursuing her post-graduation in Physical Education.Her athletic career includes representing Panjab University for three consecutive years (2021 to 2024) in inter-university games, winning silver medals each year. Most recently, she represented Punjab in the Fast5 Netball Senior Championship in Pondicherry, winning a gold medal.Speaking to TOI, Manmeet Kaur said, “I used to have individual practice sessions, running sessions, to build my stamina as I am a defence player. Representing India is a dream come true and I will give my best to help the national team perform strongly in the championship.”Looking ahead, Manmeet added, “My goal is to represent India in the next Commonwealth Games 2030. The camps for the same will be starting in 2028 and I am trying my best to be a part of that.”
