Ludhiana: Celebrating World Water Day 2026 on Sunday, the Municipal Corporation, through Ludhiana Urban Water and Wastewater Management Limited, successfully organized “Doublothon 2026″—a unique initiative combining fitness and environmental awareness. The event commenced from the backside of the MC Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar, and over 250 residents across all age groups participated. The Doublothon featured a 10 km cycling route and a 4 km run alongside the Sidhwan canal, promoting a healthy lifestyle while spreading awareness about water conservation. Officials including Communication Specialist Jaspreet Singh and Assistant Engineer Jaideep Singh stated the event was held under the guidance of Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta.During the event, officials apprised participants of the ongoing World Bank and AIIB-funded canal-based water supply project, where treated surface water will be supplied to households. The first phase is underway, involving a world-class water treatment plant (WTP) in village Bilga near Sahnewal and infrastructure development across the city. An interaction session was held between officials and participants, including NGO members and BK Rampal, representative of councillor Amrit Varsha Rampal. The event concluded with a message of collective responsibility toward sustainable urban living.Games’ winners crownedIn the running segment, the Male Senior category saw Baljinder Singh take first place, followed by Monu in second, and Parveen and Sachin sharing third. In the Male Junior category, Sidhant secured the top spot, with Kaushal Raj and Krishna finishing second and third, respectively. For the Female Senior category, Prabhjot finished first and Ankita Leena took second. The Female Junior category was led by Aaradhya in first, Samridhi in second, and a third-place tie between Nishi and Parin.The cycling competition featured Jaskaran as the winner in the Male Senior category, with Jasmant in second and Manjender Deol in third. In the Male Junior category, Daksh claimed first place, Japinder Deep Singh secured second, and the third position was shared by Abhijot and Nivan. In the Female Category for cycling, Sangeeta Dhawan emerged as the winner. The event successfully merged the spirit of competition with the urgent cause of preserving the city’s liquid assets for future generations.
