Kolkata: Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan on Wednesday became the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Eastern Command, taking over from R C Tiwari after his retirement on Tuesday. Commissioned into the Indian Army on June 11, 1988, Lt Gen Krishnan brings nearly four decades of operational, staff and instructional experience to the “Fortress of the East”. An alumnus of premier military institutions, Lt Gen Krishnan has commanded an infantry battalion and brigade in Siachen Glacier. He later served as General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division and the Brahmastra Corps. He has served as Director General Information Technology at Army Headquarters and as Defence Attaché at the Indian High Commission in London. As the Quarter Master General, his immediate previous assignment, he led major reforms in supply chain management and infrastructure.
