BENGALURU: A Bengaluru customer has called out popular café Subko after an unusual description on his bill left him upset.Instead of his name, the receipt reportedly identified the customer as “Little Fat Black Shirt”, describing him by his body type and clothing. The customer shared the bill on social media and questioned why he was described in such terms rather than by his name, table number or order details. The incident went viral on social media. The cafe has apologised for the incident and said it was taking accountability for what happened.“Some things you fix quietly. Others you fix out loud, because staying quiet is how the culture that allowed it survives. To the guest who experienced this: we’re sorry. Not for how it looked. For what it was.”“Our Internal Complaints Commission (ICC), the body dedicated to grievance redressal wants to hear from you. There is a form link in our bio. Write to us with your feedback. We’re listening,” the cafe said in the statement.“The cafe added it was aware that publicly addressing the incident could draw further attention to it, but chose to do so as part of its accountability.“We know that publishing this could give it more attention than it currently has. But we’re posting this because it genuinely bothered us. Taught us how far we have to go.”“And accountability is more important to us than sheltering ourselves from judgement when our team member was unequivocally in the wrong. So here’s what we’ve unearthed.”The café concluded its statement by explicitly condemning body-shaming.“Fat shaming is wrong. Every form. Every time. No exceptions. There’s no clever way to say this. It was cruel, and it happened under our roof,” the statement read.Read full statment here.
