Jaipur: Hanumangarh police Wednesday arrested five persons, including a gang leader, in connection with firing and extortion threats targeting liquor shops in the Bhirani area, officials said.Police said the arrests were made in connection with two incidents — a firing at a liquor shop on March 26 and an earlier case of threats and gunshots at another outlet in Chhanibadi.In the March 26 case, bike-borne assailants opened fire at a salesman at the Chidiya Gandhi liquor shop with intent to kill and fled. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and investigation was launched.Police said technical surveillance, CCTV analysis and field intelligence helped identify the accused. Dharampreet alias Preet, 25, a resident of Sirsa, was arrested in the case.In a related case reported on March 13, unidentified persons fired shots and threw a threatening letter at a liquor shop in Chhanibadi, allegedly in the name of a gang led by Sajjan alias Kaala.Police said three accused — Ashok, 30, Ramesh, 28, and Sombeer alias Lala, 26, all residents of Bhirani — were arrested in connection with the incident. Gang leader Sajjan alias Kaala, 33, a resident of Hisar, was later arrested after being brought on production warrant.Officials said Sajjan is a habitual offender with multiple cases of serious crimes registered against him in Haryana.Police said an earlier arrest of gang member Deepak alias Dholiya on Feb 13, with an illegal firearm and cartridges, also provided inputs into the gang’s activities.The accused have been taken on police remand, and further investigation is under way to identify other associates and links in the network.
