Kanpur: A team of veterinarians on Saturday operated on lioness Radhika at Etawah Safari Park and amputated her injured tail after it was bitten by another lioness, Neerja, housed in an adjacent enclosure. After providing first aid to the lioness, the safari’s medical team called in experts from Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Veterinary Science University, who examined the animal.Since the lioness was repeatedly hitting her injured tail, doctors feared that this could lead to the infection spreading in her body. Therefore, the three-member team led by Dr Sanjay Purohit surgically amputated the tail.“Her tail had to be amputated to prevent the infection from spreading. The lioness is now completely healthy,” Dr Purohit said.Radhika was brought to the safari from Junagadh in Gujarat in 2019.
