A training programme on life-saving skills held at BHU on Tuesday

Varanasi: On the occasion of National CPR Day, proctorial board of Banaras Hindu University and the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, jointly organised a training programme on life-saving skills on Tuesday. Participants were informed about identifying and managing medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, stroke, unconsciousness, excessive bleeding, road accidents, airway obstruction and other critical conditions. They also received hands-on training in high-quality CPR, airway management, recovery position and other life-saving techniques using modern training mannequins. Experts said the first few minutes after a cardiac arrest are extremely crucial. If a bystander knows the correct CPR technique, the chances of survival increase significantly.Around 150 participants attended the training programme, including nearly 35 security personnel from the Proctorial Board, about 100 final-year MBBS students of IMS-BHU, and 15 physiotherapy students. Around 35 women participants took active part. The programme aimed to strengthen the ‘CPR Ready India’ campaign by training people in high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other emergency life-saving techniques.Prof Shashi Prakash Mishra of the department of general surgery, Prof Manjari Mishra of the department of anaesthesia and Dr Prakhar Jaiswal, assistant professor, department of general surgery, trained the participants as expert instructors. The programme was coordinated by BHU Chief Proctor Sandeep Pokhariya and other members of the proctorial board.
