Srinagar, July 22: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday reviewed the ground situation in districts affected by heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides across the Union Territory, directing authorities to intensify rescue and relief operations.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said he spoke with senior officials to assess the impact of the adverse weather and was briefed on the ongoing relief measures being carried out by district administrations, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), J&K Police, the Indian Army, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and the Health, Public Works Department (PWD), and Jal Shakti departments.
Sinha said he has directed all agencies to step up rescue operations in the affected areas. He noted that joint rescue efforts are continuing in Poonch and Rajouri districts and informed that more than 400 damaged roads in the Jammu Division have already been restored.
The Lieutenant Governor also instructed officials to position adequate manpower and machinery at safe and strategically located sites near vulnerable areas to ensure a swift response to any emergency. He further directed authorities to issue timely weather and travel advisories, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in high-risk zones.
Expressing grief over the tragic shooting stones incident in Ramban district, in which two people lost their lives, Sinha said he had spoken with the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban regarding the incident.
“My deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, and I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor added that he has directed the district administration to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical treatment and to extend all necessary assistance and support to the affected families during this difficult time.
