Ahmedabad: Residents of eastern Ahmedabad will no longer have to travel to Civil Hospital in Asarwa for postmortem, with a modern postmortem department and mortuary inaugurated at AMC-run Sheth LG Municipal General Hospital in Maninagar on Wednesday.The new facility, equipped with 18 modern cold-storage units, is expected to streamline postmortem examinations, medico-legal procedures and preservation of bodies. The facility has also been equipped with necessary infrastructure and forensic expertise to facilitate such procedures.Until now, residents and police personnel from eastern parts of the city often had to take bodies to Civil Hospital for postmortem examinations. Hospital officials said the new facility would reduce travel time and make medico-legal formalities faster.Besides serving medico-legal requirements, the new unit will provide medical students with practical exposure to forensic medicine, toxicology and related procedures.Hospital officials said the facility would strengthen mortuary care and citizen-centric healthcare services in the eastern parts of Ahmedabad.
