Budgam, Sep10: Sixteen sheep were killed and 17 others injured after a leopard attacked a flock in the Badipora area of Chadoora Tehsil in central Kashmir’s Budgam district during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
According to officials, the incident occurred when the leopard entered the and attacked the flock, leaving several sheep dead and others injured.
Bashir Ahmad, Block Officer, Wildlife Control Budgam, said that a team from the Wildlife Department visited the spot after receiving information about the attack.
“We have visited the spot where the leopard attack took place. We have also installed two cages at the spot to capture the leopard alive,” Bashir Ahmad said.
He said that the department has launched a search operation in the area to trace and capture the animal.
“People should contact the Wildlife Department immediately if they spot the leopard anywhere in the district so that such incidents can be prevented,” he said.
The incident has caused concern among residents, particularly livestock owners, who have urged the authorities to take necessary measures to capture the leopard and prevent further attacks.
