T’puram: A leaking water pipeline has left a stretch of Convent Road near Vanchiyoor slippery and damaged, causing inconvenience to commuters and raising concerns over road safety. Continuous water leakage has weakened the road surface and led to the formation of potholes, making the stretch particularly risky for two-wheeler riders.Residents and regular commuters said the problem becomes more serious during the night, when the wet surface is difficult to identify, and the damaged portions are less visible.Preetha Nair, a lab technician at a private hospital who regularly uses the road, said the slippery surface could result in accidents, particularly for people unfamiliar with the stretch.She said commuters have to exercise extra caution while passing through the affected portion, especially when vehicles approach from the opposite direction.Josy F, a lawyer practising at the Vanchiyoor court, said “The authorities should address the leakage and repair the road without delay,”.Residents demanded that Kerala Water Authority (KWA) identify the source of the leakage and carry out permanent repairs. They also sought restoration of the damaged road after the pipeline was repaired.KWA officials said they would look into the matter and take the necessary action. Residents, however, said a permanent solution was required as merely filling the potholes without fixing the leakage could result in the road being damaged again.
