Prayagraj: Tension prevailed on Collectorate Road on Wednesday as a section of lawyers staged a protest against policemen posted at George Town police station, alleging inaction on a complaint filed by a woman lawyer and registration of false cases against advocates. The protesting lawyers burnt tyres and tubes on the road and demanded the registration of an FIR on the woman’s complaint. They also sought the removal of the George Town SHO.Lawyers alleged that the police failed to act on the woman advocate’s complaint of harassment. They further accused the same policemen of lodging fabricated cases against some lawyers in connection with a property dispute involving a house in the George Town area. The protest was called off after deputy commissioner of police Manish Kumar Shandilya reached the spot with a heavy police contingent and held talks with the advocates. The DCP informed the lawyers that an inquiry into the matter was underway and assured them that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings. Following the assurance, the lawyers withdrew their demonstration.
