Daltonganj: Latehar police arrested an 18-year-old girl and three others for alleged housebreaking and theft of ornaments, police sources said. The accused were identified as Sheetal (18), Manisha (24), and two 18-year-old youths, Bunty and Margo Kherwar.Police recovered two gold chains, three mangalsutras, one maang tika, two gold jitiya and two gold rings from them. SDPO Latehar Sandip Kumar Gupta confirmed the arrests late Friday night, stating, “These 4 are a part of a group of 50 to 60 men and women who are a wandering tribe known as Gulguliya in local lingo.”“The Gulguliya are notorious people. They have a notoriety of house breaking and stealing only precious things like gold and silver ornaments,” said Gupta.Police said the group shifts immediately after committing crimes and often takes shelter at railway stations. Gupta said the arrests helped crack four house-breaking and theft cases reported in June, July and August, including two in August.“They first identify locked houses. Once assured of the entry and exit, the Gulguliya invade locked houses after breaking open locks or channel gates and make a clean sweep of ornaments or cash,” said the police officer. The four were remanded under BNS on Friday.
