Lalit provided India a fine start by entering the Greco-Roman 55kg final on the opening day of the Asian wrestling championships in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Monday.
The 23-year-old Lalit, a Ranking Series bronze medallist in Albania last year, got past Japan’s Mizuki Araki 9-8 in the quarterfinals. He then upset China’s Worlds bronze medallist Huoying Shi 11-3 to set up a summit clash with Uzbekistan’s two-time Asian bronze winner Ikhtiyor Botirov. Aman (77kg) and Sunil Kumar (87kg) remained in podium contention by making it to the bronze-medal matches in their respective weight classes.
