Patna: Amid speculations in political circles that CM Nitish Kumar‘s son Nishant Kumar may contest the coming assembly elections, NDA partner and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) president Upendra Kushwaha on Sunday advised the JD(U) supremo to hand over the party’s baton to his legal successor. Extending his birthday greetings to Nishant, who turned 44 on Sunday, Kushwaha said it was the wish of the thousands of JD(U) workers also, but no one could dare say so to Nitish. He hoped the JD(U) leaders will communicate his feeling to Nitish.“Many happy wishes to JD(U)’s new hope Nishant on his birthday,” Kushwaha posted on X.“On this occasion, a very humble request to respected Nitish Kumar ji that understanding the delicacy of time and situation, please accept the truth that now running both the govt and the party (together) is not appropriate even for him. He has a long experience of running the govt, and the benefit should continue to be available to the state…” The RLM president wrote: “Party ki jabaabdehi ke hastaantran (jo meri hi nahin svayam unki party ke hajaaron kaaryakartaon/netaon ki raay hai) ki samay rahte faisla le len. Yahi unke dal ke hit mein hai… He should take a concrete and timely decision on the issue of transfer of responsibility of the party (which time has now come in the opinion of not only me but also thousands of his party workers/leaders). This is in the interest of his party.“Kushwaha even said that any delay in this can cause irreparable loss to the JD(U). Reacting over Kushwaha’s post, JD(U) state chief spokesman Neeraj Kumar said it is for CM Nitish Kumar and Nishant ji to decide. “Baki karyakarta bharose se sath khada hai,” he said. Earlier, party workers at JD(U) office also raised slogans in favour of Nishant and invited him to join politics.
