BENGALURU: Bengaluru Development minister Krishna Byre Gowda raps officials on poor monitoring of road works. He flagged the issue of contractors dumping debris near trees irresponsibly and questioned officials why they were not preventing this.Under the High-Density Corridor project on Outer Ring Road, one electricity pole is supposed to be installed every 20 metres in completed works. However, in some locations, poles — both old and new — have been installed every 5 to 10 metres, the minister observed. He questioned whether the works were being carried out in the public interest or merely to enable contractors to raise bills. He also questioned whether old poles should not be removed and uniformly designed poles installed when new electricity poles are put up. He pulled up B-SMILE officials, asking, “Are you working to improve Bengaluru, or are you working to ruin it?”
