T’puram: Another Shigella infection-related death was reported in the state. The latest fatality was a middle-aged woman from Kozhikode. Besides, seven more Shigella cases were reported in the state on Sunday. While two cases each were confirmed in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram, one case each was reported from Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad.A total of 140 Shigella cases and six deaths have been reported in the state so far this month. With the new cases, the total number of Shigella infections reported in the state this year has risen to 216.Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad recorded the highest number of cases during June. Outbreaks have currently been declared in four districts – Kozhikode (42 cases), Wayanad (19), Thrissur (12) and Alappuzha (3).Shigella infections have also been reported this month from Malappuram (20 cases), Thiruvananthapuram (17), Kannur (10), Kollam (9), Idukki (3), Palakkad (3) and Ernakulam (2).
