Koraput: Heavy rain lashed several parts of Koraput district in the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Wednesday, with Semiliguda recording the highest rainfall of 230.2 mm, even as the intensity eased on Wednesday amid overcast conditions.Koraput collector Manoj Satyawan Mahajan said the situation in the district was under control and officials had been kept on high alert in view of the heavy rainfall. “The situation is under control and officials have been kept on high alert. We are closely monitoring the situation, particularly in areas where waterlogging and rising water levels could affect traffic,” he said.While as a precautionary measure the district has ordered closure of schools and anganwadi centres on Wednesday and Thursday, adequate relief materials have been stocked in blocks to meet any emergency.Traffic movement was affected in Dasmantpur block after floodwater rose to more than five feet over the bridge connecting Dasmantpur with Pindapadar, officials said. Movement over the bridge has been disrupted as water continues to flow across the structure.According to the district rainfall report, the district received a total of 1,306.1 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period, with the average rainfall recorded at 93.29 mm.Besides Semiliguda, Jayapur recorded 161.6 mm, Borigumma 138.2 mm, Nandapur 121 mm, Koraput 116.4 mm, Boipariguda 109 mm and Lamtaput 104.1 mm of rainfall.Other blocks also received significant rainfall, with Kundra recording 62.8 mm, Pottangi 55.2 mm, Laxmipur 50.8 mm, Narayanpatna 43.8 mm, Kotpad 44 mm, Dasmantpur 35 mm and Bandhugaon 34 mm.Officials said there was a decrease in rainfall intensity on Wednesday, though cloudy weather continued across the district. The administration has asked field officials to remain vigilant and monitor water levels and road connectivity in vulnerable areas.The administration is also keeping a close watch on low-lying areas and roads and bridges that could be affected if rainfall intensifies again, the collector said.
