Kolkata: Carrying forward the previous ‘Talk to mayor’ initiative that was introduced by former KMC mayor Firhad Hakim, a weekly public grievance redressal initiative — to be named ‘Mukhomukhi’ — is set to be introduced this Saturday, where citizens will be able to directly call the urban development and municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul to report and resolve civic issues like water supply, road maintenance and drainage.Paul said that the initiative is starting from July 4 at KMC. “We are naming the programme ‘Mukhomukhi’ (face to face). It will be held from 12 noon to 1 pm. Every Saturday, the initiative will be held at the KMC headquarters. We will inform about the programme’s date and time in the rest of the civic corporations,” the minister said.Paul said that it’s being initiated by the UD&MA dept. “The duration will be one hour, we will let you know the date and time. It will be held at KMC as well as in civic headquarters of Bidhannagar, Howrah, Chandannagar, Asansol and Siliguri. The initiative at different civic bodies will be held on different days of the week,” Paul said.Paul said that a telephone line will be opened under KMC and other respective civic corporations where citizens will be able to call regarding their problems. “I will myself remain present and the whole dept will sit with me. We will take your queries and plaints. We will note down your concerns and immediately inform you how they would be solved,” Paul said.“You will receive a message once a complaint is resolved. As long as you do not receive a message, you will understand that the plaint has not been resolved. We want to bring accountability in work,” the minister said. Paul added that the initiative for Siliguri Municipal Corporation will be held online in Kolkata.
