Madikeri: After a prolonged dry spell, rainfall has gradually picked up across Kodagu district, bringing relief to the region.Madikeri city has witnessed continuous overnight rainfall over the past couple of days. The district recorded an average rainfall of 47.38 mm in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Saturday. Kodagu has received 452.96 mm of rainfall between Jan 1 and July 4 this year, compared with 1,505.38 mm during the corresponding period last year.Madikeri taluk, which forms a major part of the Cauvery river catchment area, recorded the highest average rainfall in the district at 68.47 mm on Saturday. The taluk has received 687.74 mm of rainfall since Jan, against 2,141.84 mm during the same period last year.Virajpet taluk received an average rainfall of 54.30 mm on Saturday. The taluk has recorded 486.99 mm of rainfall since January, nearly 1,000 mm less than the corresponding period last year. Ponnampet taluk recorded an average rainfall of 38.52 mm on Saturday.The Harangi reservoir, which has a full reservoir level of 2,859 feet, stood at 2,832.72 feet on Saturday. During the corresponding period last year, the reservoir level was 2,852.13 feet.
