Jhunjhunu: Family members of a woman who died after developing complications following a caesarean delivery at Sikar’s Govt Janana Hospital ended their two-day sit-in outside the mortuary of SK Hospital Friday after reaching an agreement with the administration.The family agreed to a postmortem, following which a medical board was constituted to conduct the examination before the body was handed over to them.Sikar Kotwali SHO Sunil Jangid said the protesters had sought compensation, a contractual job for the deceased’s husband and an inquiry into the alleged medical negligence. He said adequate police deployment was maintained during the protest.Outgoing deputy district chief Tarachand Dhayal said discussions were held with the SDM, tehsildar and police, and not with the hospital administration. He said members of the community, traders and donors would provide financial assistance of about Rs 9-10 lakh to the family, of which Rs 4 lakh was handed over on the spot. He also said the deceased’s husband, Lalachand Nayak, would be provided a contractual job at a govt hospital after the required formalities.Dhayal said the memorandum submitted by the protesters did not seek suspension of any doctor or staff member, adding that action over alleged negligence was for the hospital administration and the concerned department to decide.Deepa Nayak underwent a caesarean delivery at the Janana Hospital on July 21 and gave birth to a daughter. Her family alleged that her condition deteriorated the next day due to negligence by nursing staff and the administration of a wrong injection. She died while being referred to Jaipur on the night of July 22. The family had been staging a protest outside the mortuary since her death.
