Kharge said: “In Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah was attacked and his security has clearly been compromised. Earlier, the region had full statehood. At present, however, the entire responsibility for security and policing rests with the Union home ministry. Incidents like this raise serious questions about the law and order situation there.”

Kharge demanded that until statehood is restored and law and order is brought back under a state government, people there will not feel safe.

Leader of the House JP Nadda called the incident unfortunate. “I want to assure the House, on behalf of the government, that a thorough investigation will be conducted. The attacker has already been arrested, and authorities are working to determine his motives. The government will take all necessary steps to ensure that such incidents do not happen again, and that Abdullah’s safety is fully protected… Linking the incident to the question of statehood is incorrect.
