Nashik: Former state women’s commission chairperson Rupali Chakankar was questioned for six hours on Sunday by the special investigation team (SIT) probing allegations of rape and extortion against jailed astrologer Ashok Kharat, said officials.Chakankar, who had quit following the allegations, was questioned about her association with Kharat and her role as a trustee of Shiwanika Trust, which he headed. “I provided fitting answers to all questions. I believe the inquiry committee must have been satisfied with the answers,” she told reporters. On the nature of the questions, she said, “You will come to know when the report is published.”Sources said the questioning could not be finished due to time constraints and Chakankar is likely to be called again. Sources said cops focused on multiple aspects during the questioning, including how she came in contact with Kharat, the circumstances under which she joined the trust, and whether she was approached by the victims. They also reportedly sought clarity on whether Kharat sought any political or financial favours, and if Chakankar had any role or knowledge of such dealings. —Abhilash Botekar
