Thomas, speaking to a TV channel, further said that Satheesan, his student, was hardworking and public opinion was in his favour for becoming the chief minister.
“They (Congress) cannot ignore the public opinion. He (Satheesan) performed his duties as opposition leader very nicely. He successfully led the front in many by-elections, the local body polls and the Assembly elections,” Thomas said.
Thomas was expelled from the Congress in 2022 for attending a CPI(M) event in violation of directives issued by the party.
He was later appointed as the state’s special representative in New Delhi by the Left government.
Satheesan, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala and party general secretary K C Venugopal are in the race for the chief ministership of Kerala.
The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) on Thursday held a meeting and passed a resolution authorising its high command to decide who should be the CM.
