T’puram: The state govt has sanctioned Rs 14.4 crore for the continuation of Snehasanthwanam, the comprehensive package being implemented for the rehabilitation and welfare of endosulfan victims in Kasaragod.The allocation is intended to meet expenses under the scheme during the 2026-27 financial year. The amount has been provided through the social justice department under the demand for grants included in the state budget for the year, according to a statement issued by the chief minister’s office on Saturday.The statement said the sanction was in keeping with the promise made by the UDF govt to those affected by endosulfan. A major share of the allocation will go towards direct financial assistance to existing beneficiaries and those expected to be newly included in the beneficiary list.Of the total amount, Rs 9,84,31,200 has been earmarked for providing monthly relief assistance to 5,208 endosulfan victims who are already receiving financial aid. The allocation will cover the 12-month period from April 2026 to March 2027.Govt has set aside another Rs 2,64,00,000 to provide assistance to 1,000 people expected to be newly included in the list of beneficiaries. The two components together account for Rs 12,48,31,200 of the total allocation.The package also provides financial support to those caring for endosulfan victims. An amount of Rs 64,76,400 has been allocated under Aswasakiranam, which provides monthly financial assistance to caregivers. The allocation will cover 771 caregivers.Govt has also included provisions for educational and social support to children from endosulfan-affected families. It has sanctioned Rs 10,05,000 for providing educational benefits to 400 children during the 2026-27 academic year.Another Rs 1,16,87,400 will be spent on upgrading the physical facilities and improving services at 10 model child rehabilitation centres in the district.The entire sanctioned amount has thus been apportioned among monthly relief for 5,208 existing beneficiaries, assistance for 1,000 prospective beneficiaries, support for 771 caregivers, educational benefits for 400 children and the improvement of 10 rehabilitation centres.
